    December Economic Forecast:

The December Economic and Revenue Forecast issued by new Chief State Economist Carl Riccadonna created quite a buzz in Salem. This forecast marks the first forecast modeling an updated approach that is intended to more accurately project state revenues (State Economist Revamps Revenue Forecast.)

The new forecast showed revenue increases that are projected to generate an additional $982.5 million in Net General Fund and Lottery Resources for the 2023-25 biennium compared to the September 2024 Forecast. The projected personal kicker jumped to $1.792 billion (up from $987 million) and the projected corporate kicker grew to $1.024 billion (up from $882.8 million). Corporate kicker funds will be required to be spent on K-12 education during the next budget cycle (2025-27).

The forecast also indicates the state’s reserve accounts will grow (Education Stability Fund, Rainy Day Fund, and Cash Reserves) and are currently projected to reach about $5.702 billion at the end of the 2023-25 biennium. Specifically, the Education Stability Fund is projected to have $1.009 billion, the Rainy-Day Fund is projected to have $1.907 billion, and cash reserves are $2.786 billion. These projections are equivalent to 20.5% of the General Fund Budget. Please note those cash reserves will be rolled over into the 2025-27 biennium and are included in projected revenues for the next budget cycle. It is worth repeating that Oregon is in a very strong position to weather even a significant economic downturn.

New Chief State Economist Carl Riccadonna’s office issued the following Revenue Forecast Press Release explaining the new forecasting methodology and accompanying jump in the revenue forecast.

    Flu Season:

Don’t forget we are in flu season. In addition to the flu, both COVID and RSV bronchial infections are also rising and with them student and staff absences. This is a good time to remind staff and students to remember healthy habits. Especially disinfect common spaces and wash your hands frequently. If you are sick, stay home and spare others from spreading the bug. Let’s be proactive in managing healthy learning spaces.

Remember also, EPSD9 has School Based Health Centers created in partnership with Rogue Community Health. Our clinics are located in Eagle Point High School, White Mountain Middle School and Table Rock Elementary and are available for both staff and students from all of our schools.

    FFA Dinner & Auction:

The Eagle Point 17th Annual Dinner and Auction was held on Saturday, December 14th at the Seven Feathers Event Center located on the Jackson County Exposition Grounds. 374 community members attended the event and we raised $103,210.00! An additional $22,240.00 was raised for scholarships. Thank you Eagle Point!
