The Eagle Point School District 9 Board of Directors has reviewed the job performance of Superintendent Andy Kovach for the year 2023, and we appreciate the work that he and his leadership have performed this past year. Mr. Kovach has continued to focus on the EPSD 9 Mission and Values of Every Student, Every Class, Every Day. By following these principles, he has implemented and overseen various changes and challenges in a way that is respectful and admirable. These are the traits we want in our district leadership to set an example for our students.

The four district priorities for the past four years have been - Close the Gaps, Provide Pathways, Addressing the Social and Emotional Learning, and solidifying a Clear and Defined District Culture for all students. While the accomplishment of some of the goals is a work in progress and needs continued focus, other goals have been met and are showing their results in our schools. 

Overall, our academics still need improvement. This past year one of the most successful accomplishments was the new contract/agreement with our teachers’ union. This new contract is a win for both our teachers and our students by creating more “in class teaching time” while also giving our teachers the additional development days they need to prepare, collaborate, and learn for themselves from other teaching professionals. The negotiations led by Mr. Kovach and his leadership team were handled with respect and an overarching desire to provide the best for our students and the teachers themselves. To help improve the tracking of our academic achievements, the new grading process has shown a much better, consistent, and more accurate evaluation of where our students need a little help and where we can also allow students to reach further than they may have with the previous number grade system. This will allow our teachers to better focus where the help is needed. Just like all other schools in the country, we recognize the shortfalls of our academic system and Mr. Kovach holds himself responsible for improvements that need to be implemented.

Our students have access to more clubs, after-school programs, and CTE than ever before. Our district is known for our achievements in Skills USA and FFA, and our sports programs are improving. We are proud of the work that our students have put in and the pride they have in being Eagles. Mr. Kovach has done an excellent job in ensuring the resources are in place for these programs.

The construction of the new K-Bar Agricultural Learning Center with the covered arena, the modular building and covered play area at Table Rock Elementary, the replacement and refinishing of gym floors at various schools, the improvements for the softball field, and many other projects show how responsible our district has been with our financial resources. These contribute to the overall learning experience of our students. While other projects will have to wait until a bond is able to be passed, Mr. Kovach is committed to providing our students with the best facilities the district can provide.

We have full faith and confidence in Superintendent Kovach, and we look forward to his continuing work as our district leader. As he develops his district priorities for the next few years, we know his commitment will encompass our student’s success, collaboration with our teachers, and an open and transparent relationship with our community to continue to improve our overall district.
